You should already know that Denim comes in a variety of shades or washes (as we call them). They range from very light to the deep blues and sometimes black. There are so many other shades but these ones are the common ones.
Now, to help you style your denim look, we’ve rounded up a breakdown of different washes along with the color it pairs best with. Here is a list of what to wear with every shade of denim, read on and be inspired.
What To Wear With Every Shade Of Denim You Have
#1: Black Denim
The black denim is one of the most versatile shades of denim. It is low-risk and goes with pretty much everything in your wardrobe. With the right fit, Black denim can be a very good alternative for dress pants or chinos. when rocking a business casual or smart casual ensemble.
How To Wear a Black Denim (Top and Trousers)
- You can wear chinos pants with a white T-shirt and a black denim jacket, finish it off with a Chelsea boot or sneakers for an elegant casual look.
- Pair a suede bomber jacket with your black jeans and a white T-shirt for a cool look.
- To smarten it up a bit, wear a crisp white Oxford shirt, black denim pants, and then add a blazer and double monk straps. Play it cool by adding a few accessories.
#2: White Denim
White is a very beautiful color that pops your outfit. While so many are afraid of rocking this color, you can easily go wrong with this color. It is always very stylish when worn the right way.
How To Wear a White Denim
- White denim top in a stone wash, cream or off-white goes well with different body types and skin tones plus it’s easier to wash.
- Pair a white denim jacket with a darker shade of shirt, black trousers or raw denim (Dark Denim) and a pair of white sneakers.
- You can also pair them with other laid back wardrobe staples in light neutral color i.e White denim pants with a navy blue or grey Tshirt and a pair of sand desert boots and a stone or khaki field jacket.
#3: Light Wash Denim
This shade of denim is as timeless as it gets, always going in and out of fashion, it is still loved by all. As lovable as it is, you can really go wrong with this shade of denim.
How To Wear a Light Wash Denim
- Wearing a light wash denim on top and below is a big no no no! unless you are throwing it a white round neck T-shirt under the top – for a laid back look. Otherwise, mix this look with a darker shade of denim.
- For a more relaxed everyday look, pair it with everyday items in your wardrobe like a simple white crew neck T-shirt, a pair of white sneakers or chukka boots.
- Pair a light wash jacket or shirt with a dark outfit like dark colored pants and tees.
#4: Mid-Wash Denim
This is a common shade of denim to have because it is versatile. It falls in-between light and dark wash denim.
How To Wear a mid-wash denim
- Like light wash denim, you don’t have to wear the same shade on top and below. With this shade, it is best to keep it simple.
#5: Dark Wash Denim
This shade is almost similar to the dark denim, but they are not black though. Say charcoal shades or a very deep blue (see the denim trousers the model is wearing in the picture above). They are usually stiff, left unwashed after manufacturing and aren’t usually made in a skinny fit.
Note that the darker the shade of denim or the less detailing, the more the formality – this means it can be worn for more business casual occasions.
How To Wear a Dark Wash Denim
- Stiff denim tends to sit away from the body, so make sure that anything that you’re wearing up top and on your feet isn’t too form-fitting.
- You can pair this with anything; colors, textures or other shades of denim.
- There is an exception to the double denim rule here, you’re allowed to double it up. They can also be paired with darker shades of shirts or denim jacket.
