The Revenant (2015 film) Movie – Will Leonardo DiCaprio finally win an Oscar?

By  |

The Revenant

If you’ve seen these movies – Titanic, Catch me if You Can, Gangs of New York, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, Inception, Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby and Wolf of Wall Street, then you will agree with me that Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance in all these movies deserved an Oscar. For several years we all said – “This is going to be the year Leonardo DiCaprio finally wins that Oscar”, but it never happened. Five (5) times he’s been nominated, but every time it looks like he is poised to win, it seems to slide out of his grasp quickly.

Leonardo DiCaprio sure looks like he’s giving it everything he’s got this time around. His performance in “The Revenant” has finally been screened and it seems like everything is in place for him to finally win. The Revenant – written & directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu is gritty, thrilling, and unlike anything we’ve seen Leonardo DiCaprio do before.

The Revenant

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as frontiersman Hugh Glass who is on a mission to seek revenge on the men who left him for dead and robbed him after a bear attack. The pulsing trailer is full of blood-spattered snow, gunfire, and horse chases. Classic to Iñárritu’s style, the camera work makes you feel like you’re right inside the scene, and this trailer will leave you breathless. Here is the trailer. Go ahead and watch it 10 times. I have.

Here is an excerpt from an article by Art Streiber for Variety

Leonardo DiCaprio went to such great lengths as a method actor on “The Revenant” that he devoured a raw slab of bison’s liver. Although the props department had constructed a faux liver from jelly, DiCaprio worried that it didn’t look right. And so — after calls to his lawyer and agents cleared — producers were able to serve him the real thing. “The bad part is the membrane around it,” DiCaprio says. “It’s like a balloon. When you bite into it, it bursts in your mouth.”
Director Alejandro G. Inarritu says he was initially concerned that his leading man could get sick from eating a potentially disease-ridden organ. But, he now beams at what the real liver added to DiCaprio’s performance. “Without it, he may not have gotten to the truth,” Inarritu says.

A-ha! See…? I personally think the Academy might just give the trophy to DiCaprio in the Best Actor category, as the public has been clamoring for him to win for some time now. If it finally happens this time around, I guess we will just forgive them for their previous snubs.

The Revenant had a limited release in the US on December 25th, with a wide release on January 8th, 2016.

Current Nominees for the Best Actor Category are:-

  1. Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”)
  2. Matt Damon (“The Martian”)
  3. Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”)
  4. Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs”)
  5. Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”)

The Revenant

The 88th Academy Awards (2016 Oscars) holds on February 28, 2016, let’s see what happens then.
I think this movie – “The Revenant” is finally going to be the one that wins Leornardo DiCaprio an Oscar. What do you guys think? I want him to win.

I had the same conversation about his Oscar chances today at work. The backlash The Academy Award organisers may get with several boycotting and then denying Leonardo his Oscar is not a script they’d like to see on film. DiCaprio is a brilliant. A white Denzel Washington, just bring on any role and he’d show you class. Finally, I hope he wins.

Thanks Ugo, for taking time to comment and share your opinion. I share the same views with you and have personally compared other top movies and actors that were nominated in same “Best Actor” category – Bryan Cranston in Trumbo, Matt Damon in The Martian, Michael Fassbender in Steve Jobs and Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl. Having watched all the movies, I think Leo’s performance in The Revenant beats all the rest and I hope the Academy Award is going to be a fair one and I really hope he wins.
