We live all our lives in pursuit of happiness, and we chase a lot of things we believe will bring us joy, happiness, and fulfillment. At the end of the day, we do not find fulfillment in those things.
As Denis Waitley once said: It is not in the pursuit of happiness that we find fulfillment, it is in the happiness of pursuit.
We always dream of big accomplishment in the hope of getting some sort of inner peace or contentment but the real truth is small things are what matter the most and give us inner joy and peace.
So I just want to let you know today, that there are simple habits that we can adopt which will make us happy every day.
Before we delve into this, let’s first define H A P P I N E S S.
Think about it for a minute.
What does Happiness really mean to you?
A promotion at work?
A new deal with a client or investor?
The opportunity to go on that dream vacation?
Your kids going to the best schools?
A lot of money in your bank?
A baby on the way?
Getting married to the love of your life?
At least one of the options above appeals to your desires. Well … they aren’t bad at all, but there is a type of happiness that can be found in the small things you do daily.
Funny enough, they are things you never really pay attention to but they have a big impact on how your day goes. These habits are going to keep you happy every day without you knowing it.
Take a few minutes to look out for it, use the tips listed below and see how it brightens your day.

#1. Have A Self-Care Routine
We get so busy with work, our job, our business, and our family that we rarely take a breather????? What is this, could you find a replacement???
You should take a moment for yourself (away from your busy schedules) to make sure you are happy every now and then. How?
A moment of respite or relaxation will definitely go a long way in securing your personal happiness. You can visit new places, hang out after work, make new friends, take some time off during work hours to listen to music, or even hit the gym at the end of the day.
I recently packed my bags and took a short trip far away from work, family, and friends just to care for me physically, mentally and emotionally.
I left those unread emails, unsigned documents, pending tasks/to-do list for a little time out for myself. Believe me, I was refreshed after 3 days.
The best way to really enjoy your self-care time is to make sure that you’re not stressing about little tasks while you’re trying to press the reset button. Sort out whatever is important so that “me time” can be as effective as possible.
#2. Stop Worrying
Like love, Happiness works in mysterious ways. The simple habits to keep you happy every day lies in changing your thought patterns. That is, the way you think and what you say every day plays a role in how happy you are.
It has everything to do with how your brain works like I always say “everything starts from within” and worrying over situations that you can’t control will only drag you to a life of misery.
Remember happiness is within you!
#3. Have a Joyful State Of Mind
One of the effective and simple habits to keep you happy every day is having a joyful state of mind. A healthy mind is a healthy life. If you didn’t know before, please note that the state of your mind affects your daily life or your attitude.
Having a joyful or positive mind is the best existence we can hope to achieve. A joyful mind produces positive vibes, feel-good energy, and self-motivation. It also encourages us to look to the future with high hopes.
#4. Appreciate The Small Things
We always dream of big accomplishment in the hope of getting some sort of inner peace or contentment but the real truth is small things are what matter the most and give us inner joy and peace.
By appreciating the little things we can value the big blessings more. Unfortunately, there are little moments or blessings we don’t appreciate or go unnoticed because we think they’re insignificant. These things are taken for granted because we only value big accomplishments. By making it a habit to embrace and celebrate the small things, we become more appreciative of life and feel more blessed.
#5. Surround Yourself With People Who Make You Smile
Having positive vibes around you all the time is one of the most important choices to make you happy every day.
Be around people who make you smile and laugh. Avoid negative people. Research shows that you are happiest when you are around those who are also happy. Being around joyful and positive people will rub off on you. I have come to understand that happiness is an individual choice and the choice to make yourself happy every day is influenced by the people in your life.
You should surround yourself with happy people – have a few drinks with friends, go on dates, network with people in the same industry, you will increase your chances of being happy.
#6. Smile And Laugh More
It’s no news that laughter is the best medicine. Laughing reduces stress, improves blood flow, lowers blood pressure, and produces a general sense of well-being.
So tell me, when was the last time you really laughed? I mean a genuine one. Probably some time ago. We are so busy with all of our adult responsibilities, we forgot how to really be human.
By that, I mean laughing and just being happy like little kids without a care in the world. Sometimes we are so unhappy that we don’t even know how to relax and just smile. We live in a world where we have to fake everything. Well, I tell you, you don’t have to fake it anymore. Try laughing and smiling genuinely, it’s not so hard. Just try it for a week and this habit will glue on to you for good!
#7. Make Someone Else Happy
Don’t stop at just making yourself happy but endeavor to make other people around you happy as well. As the saying goes, we rise by lifting others – you are happier when you show love to someone else. Give someone a big hug, a gift, a piece of advice, a listening ear or just be there for them when they have a bad day.
All these will go a long way and make you feel good knowing that you can be there for family, friends, co-workers or even a random stranger.
