MEN’S FASHION & STYLE GUIDE
The 5 Important Types Of Suit Every Man Should Own
We all need more than one suit, but with limited funds, how do you solve that dilemma? Read on to know the most important types of suit every man should own.
Gentlemen,
I recently received this Style Question on ASK MR KOACHMAN platform:
“What are the most important types of suit I should have in my wardrobe for all occasions?”
Before I answer the question, you should know that – a navy blue suit and a gray suit are the first two suits every gentleman should have. My reason is simply because of their versatility.
So How Do You Determine All The Important Types of Suits Every Gentleman Should Have?
Firstly, you need to determine why you need suits, which ones you need to buy in order to decide the order to buy them.
This decision could be either based on your current needs, objectives or cost
Believe me when I tell you that the worse thing when buying a suit is to go for what you like but can’t even wear for all occasions.
Secondly, when it comes to suits colors, some are simply more versatile than others.
So here are the 5 types of suit every man should own.
The 5 Important Types Of Suit Every Man Should Own
1. The Navy Two-Button Suit
The first important type of suit is the Plain Navy Two-button suit. This is by far the MOST VERSATILE suit to own. If you only want to have one suit, this is the suit you should definitely go for. It is ideal for work, church, and weddings. You can go for a two-piece or a three-piece option.
The jacket can also be paired with other trousers like gray or beige to achieve a successful suit separate.
2. The Charcoal Grey Two-Button Suit
The second important type of suit is the Plain Charcoal Grey Two-button suit. See this suit as the second lifesaver suit, it is as versatile as the navy.
The only difference is that the Navy suits make you look younger while the charcoal grey gives more age to your look.
This suit allows you to mix patterns such as checks or herringbone-into the suit which makes it very easy to match.
It goes well with several shirt colors such as light blue, white, light pink, lilac, black, etc. And you can easily pair different power tie colors. While the charcoal grey suit is more formal, the light grey is less formal – so it is advisable to invest in the charcoal grey suit if you need a corporate suit for your job.
3. The Classic Black Suit
The classic Black suit is third on the list, a must-have evening suit for formal events. They have limited use but it doesn’t mean they aren’t useful. This makes the navy and grey colors more adequate for the workplace.
But the classic black suit works well as a substitute for formal events if you don’t want to wear a Tuxedo. A black suit is useful for the most formal of occasions such as a cocktail, reception dinner, and any formal black-tie event. You can also wear one to a western funeral, as it fits the purpose.
4. The Dark Double-Breasted Suit
Also known as DB suits, they are statement pieces that speak volumes, you should wear them on days where you want to make a bold statement with your suit.
Ultimately, you should wear the DB Suit as an elegant and charismatic alternative to the single breasted suit. It is versatile enough to enter your everyday rotation.
They can be worn in any situation such as to the office, to an event [weddings, dinner and other dressy events] and the jackets can be paired with other trousers and worn in semi-formal occasions.
For your fabric choice, go for a Wool And Cashmere-Blend in either plain, pinstripe or windowpane stripes.
5. The Tuxedo
You probably won’t wear this regularly, but a time will come for you to wear one even if it’s once a year.
You can never tell when you need the tuxedo, you could get invited for a black tie event, an award evening event, a special wedding etc… who knows. Just keep one in a special place in your wardrobe.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I hope you find this piece very helpful, these 5 suits will form the core of your wardrobe.
