Street Style Inspiration: How to Wear a Bomber Jacket
Tim Gunn Quote: “Frankly, from my perspective, the bomber jacket is such a classic item you can wear it even when it’s not on trend.”
Are you considering swapping your traditional blazer for something more fun [and no, I’m not talking about Sports Coat], then you have to consider —the bomber jacket.
The bomber jacket is one of the most classic pieces of menswear around. It has been a menswear staple for decades and will probably never go out of style.
Best known as the casual padded jackets that were originally created for military pilots. Today they’ve been well-refined in lighter weight designs, becoming a popular fashion trend and a classic street style choice for any man or woman who wants to look effortlessly stylish.
Anatomy Of The Bomber Jacket
The bomber jacket is traditionally made of leather and has a fitted or elastic waist. The jacket comes in different styles and fits and is characterized by its ribbed collar, cuffs, and hem. It also has a zippered front, utility arm pocket, and a defined neckline.
The jacket length is either the standard waist length design, the longline design (as incorporated in modern bomber coats/long bomber jackets) or a length that meets the crotch covering the back seat. And yeah, some actually do come with a hood.
HOW TO WEAR A BOMBER JACKET
Having purchased your bomber jacket, knowing what to wear – from the shirt to the trouser to the shoes – needs to come effortlessly. Otherwise, you’ll abandon this classic menswear piece and reach straight for your suit jacket, blazer or sports coat – simply because they’re your comfort zone.
