How To Make The Delicious James Bond Vodka Martini
Once again, James Bond has inspired his fans effortlessly not only with his style but his lifestyle as well. Here is a guide on how to make the delicious James Bond Vodka martini, cheers!
Every true gentleman should be able to choose a drink that is as elegant and sophisticated as he is – and James Bond has set that example for his diehard fans by fascinating us with this classy cocktail drink.
Martinis play an important role in the life of James Bond. They are as famous as his fast cars and the Bond girls.
Everyone who has watched 007 movies knows that James Bond famously drinks a “Vodka Martini, shaken, not stirred” and since he is an epitome of a classy gentleman, you should consider making this one of your favorite drinks as well (just as I have).
The James Bond vodka martini is six parts vodka, one part vermouth, and served from a cocktail shaker.
And he orders with finesse as well, I quote “a medium Vodka dry Martini – with a slice of lemon peel. Shaken and not stirred, please. I would prefer Russian or Polish vodka.”
So how do you make the delicious James Bond Vodka Martini?
A strong and simple drink – the Vodka Martini is made by combining vodka, dry vermouth, and ice in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. The ingredients are chilled, either by stirring or shaking, then strained and served “straight up” (without ice) in a chilled cocktail glass.
When you say to the bartender “Shaken, not Stirred” you are simply describing your preference for the preparation. There are basically three forms of preparation, namely:
- Dry Martini – A dry Martini is made with dry, white vermouth.
- Dirty Martini – Dirty Martini contains a splash of olive brine or olive juice and is typically garnished with an olive.
- Perfect Martini – Perfect Martini uses equal amounts of sweet and dry vermouth.
Traditionally, martinis should actually be stirred. Shaking breaks down the ice more. When you shake a cocktail, you’re also aerating the drink, changing its texture.
Stirring is used when you don’t want to over-dilute, over-cool, or change the texture of a cocktail. Unlike with shaking, the ice you use to stir a cocktail actually matters. Small ice cubes will cool and dilute the drink faster, and large ones will cool and dilute the drink slower.
The dilution of the vermouth gives you a completely different sensation. Made famous more recently in the 2006 movie Casino Royale is the Vesper, recipes will also be shared.
If you want to follow in his footsteps, get that shaker out and get ready to make that James Bond Vodka martini like a pro.
So here we go with mixing the James Bond Vodka Martini…
Ingredients (Dry Martini):
- 60ml of vodka (to match his drink in Spectre, use Belvedere vodka)
- 10-20ml of dry vermouth
- Ice
- Lemon peel or olive
Preparation:
Add the vodka, vermouth, and lots of ice to a mixing glass. Shake thoroughly until it is chilled, then strain the content into a martini glass and garnish with a thin slice of lemon peel or an olive. Enjoy quickly before the bubbles burst.
For the Vesper Martini, in the Casino Royale, Bond gave explicit instructions on how to make this drink. The preparation is ‘3 measures of Gordon’s, 1 of vodka, 1/2 a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it over ice and then add a thin slice of lemon peel.’
Ingredients:
- 60ml of Gordon’s Gin
- 20ml of vodka
- 10ml of Lillet Blanc (Kina Lillet is no longer produced)
- Ice
- Lemon peel
Preparation:
Add the gin, vodka, Lillet Blanc, and ice to a mixing glass, then shake thoroughly until it is chilled. Strain the mixture into a martini glass and garnish with a thin slice of lemon peel. And voila! Your very own Vesper Martini!!
