WHAT IS A FOUNTAIN PEN?
“A fountain pen also known as a reservoir pen is the modern version of the original dip pen, and unlike its predecessor, utilizes an internal ink reservoir that draws the ink from its container to the nib using a feeder without having to constantly dip it in an inkwell”- Wikipedia.
The Anatomy of a Fountain Pen
The fountain pen consists of four main parts: the cap, the nib, the feed, and the filing system.
- The Cap: this part covers the nib and one part of the pen body.
- The Feed: this is a piece of plastic usually black in color, which holds the back of the nib and helps to deliver ink from the reservoir to the nib.
- The Nib: a metallic tip of a fountain pen that transfers the ink to the paper.
- Filling Systems: also known as the reservoir is the chamber inside the fountain pen that holds the ink.
So Now, let me give you a brief history of how it came about.

ORIGIN OF FOUNTAIN PEN
The fountain pen or reservoir pen dates back to the 10th century when the Fatimid caliph Al-Mu’izz li-Din Allah, a region of Northwest Africa, demanded a pen that would not stain his hands or clothes, and would not leave as much mess as standard pens and quills. He was provided with a pen that held ink in a reservoir, allowing it to be held upside-down without leaking.
The second mention of a pen with inner reservoir was in the 17th century when German inventor Daniel Schwenter invented a pen made from two quills. Romanian inventor Petrache Poenaru on May 25, 1827, received a patent from the French government for a fountain pen which had a barrel made from a large swan quill.
In the 19th century, standard pens were improved with mass production of cheap steel pen nibs which affected the use of fountain pens. Since then, ballpoints became the standard writing instrument because they were cheap and easier to use while fountain pens became a status symbol.
However, I’d still say that the writing experience of a fountain pen surpasses that of the ballpoint. If you are a classy gentleman, you should at least know why and how to use a fountain pen.

WHY SHOULD YOU WRITE WITH A FOUNTAIN PEN?
“My two fingers on a typewriter have never connected with my brain. My hand on a pen does. A fountain pen, of course. Ball-point pens are only good for filling out forms on a plane.” – Graham Greene
Thinking of changing from your ballpoint pen to this classy menswear accessory? Here are a few reasons to give this luxury pen a try:
#1: IT FEELS BETTER
With a luxury pen, you don’t have to press down too hard as you do with a ballpoint pen. It feels better to write with unlike a ballpoint pen that cramps your fingers, plus it’s easy to get in the flow of your writing.
#2: IT MAKES A STATEMENT
Honestly, writing with a fountain pen is so appealing that it just makes you feel really cool with yourself. Today, fountain pens have been elevated to an accessory status that they can be used to make a statement, plus they distinguish you from other men. It is an item that you’re recognized by and leaves a lasting impression on people.
#3: A LUXURIOUS WRITING EXPERIENCE
Fountain pens will give you the smoothest and luxurious writing experience you can ever imagine, I promise. You can only experience this feeling unless you try using a luxury pen – I assure you, you will never look at a ballpoint pen the same way again.
#4: IT IMPROVES HANDWRITING
Do you have a messy handwriting and want to improve it? There is nothing like a luxury pen to help motivate you. Another specialty of this fine luxury piece is how it can up our penmanship! Believe me when I say it gives you a unique writing style. The decrease in speed when writing with a fountain pen can indirectly make you write each letter more carefully.
#5: LESS DISPOSABLE AND ECONOMICAL
Unlike a ballpoint pen, you don’t have to throw it away after use, instead, you can refill it with ink or replace the nib and as well save some extra change. I bet you didn’t even think of that! A fountain pen still works perfectly as well as it did on the first day. This is an investment you’ll be proud to own and maintain for years to come.

HOW TO WRITE WITH A FOUNTAIN PEN
A fountain pen can be a little intimidating for someone who’s never used one before. Writing with a fountain pen is much different than writing with any other type of pen. Let me school you on how to use a luxury pen.
- Put the cap on the end of your pen while you’re writing so it feels more balanced in your hand. But if you prefer it without the cap – that’s not a problem, do what works for you.
- Hold the pen at a correct angle so ink flows more easily. The pen should make a 40 to 55-degree angle with your writing surface.
- You don’t need to put too much pressure when using a fountain pen like you do with a ballpoint pen. If you are used to doing this, I’d strongly advise you NOT TO DO THIS with a fountain pen! You can damage the nib by pressing too hard, so keep your strokes light!
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you’ve never tried a luxury pen before, I advise that you should give one a shot.
Asides from their smooth flow and minimal writing pressure, there are various choices of ink colors to choose from. They also give you the opportunity to bond with your writing instrument in a way no other pen can!
If you already use a fountain pen, what do you think? If you don’t, what’s holding you back? We can help you get one today!
