It is easy to get carried away with the festivities of the season, but be careful ‘cos this can have a negative impact on your overall health. To avoid any bad habits this festive season, here are our top 5 tips on how to eat healthy this Holiday Season.
It’s the holidays, ladies and gentlemen!
…who doesn’t want to have fun?
The festive season is a time to celebrate and indulge. A time you get quality time with families and friends, and it comes with a lot of merriment, delicious meals, and all sorts of fizzy drinks, juice, and alcoholic beverages. Because of the joy and merriment of the season, we tend to overindulge with food and drinks.
Truth be told, it is very difficult to eat healthy this Holiday Season. You can’t always escape the temptations or keep yourself from being surrounded by unhealthy foods. With all the parties, feasting with the assurance of abundant delicious foods, snacks, and booze, it’s so easy to overindulge!
You can still enjoy all the festivities of the season without negatively impacting your health. You can consciously decide to do things differently and to eat healthily.
So in the spirit of the festivities, here are some tips to help you eat healthy this Holiday Season.
How To Eat Healthy This Holiday Season | 5 Tips
#1. Eat Wisely
It’s not wise to eat everything at feasts or parties. Be selective about what you put into your stomach. Be conscious of eating healthy and load up your plate with only healthy and nutritious foods.
This will help to dull your appetite so you don’t overeat! This way, you’re able to control the portions you eat especially when it comes to desserts and high-sugar drinks.
#2. Avoid Drinking Too Much Alcohol
Drinking a lot of alcohol is a norm during festive seasons, but you don’t have to overindulge yourself. Instead, try to keep tabs on how much you are drinking.
Also, it is not advisable to drink alcohol on an empty stomach. Alcohol increases your appetite and reduces your ability to control what you eat. And for those with dreams of staying in shape for the new year, note that too much alcohol makes you have a potbelly.
#3. Exercise
During the festive seasons, it is very difficult to keep track of your normal exercise routine with all the celebrations during the holidays. It’s a #DettyDecember so make it a priority to exercise regularly. It helps you stay on track and help decrease your appetite for junk food!
#4. Drink Plenty Of Water
With the many festive activities, it easy to forget something as simple as drinking enough water. Drink lots of water so you can be sufficiently hydrated. Being dehydrated can trick your brain into thinking you’re hungry, making you overeat!
#5. Don’t Be Afraid To Say No
Being able to say NO is very important especially when it comes to food – unhealthy foods. You don’t have to eat everything that you’re offered (a lot of free foods are available during the holiday season), better still, eat before you go out. This way you can easily avoid the high sugar, high calorie and high-fat foods that could affect your health and fitness.
Final Thoughts
While you should be conscious about how you can eat healthy this holiday season, you shouldn’t spend the whole time overthinking that you fail to enjoy the festivities. Take time to relax, have fun, set your new year goals and plan; but be conscious enough to make healthy choices that won’t affect your overall health.
You can still eat healthily and enjoy the celebrations, don’t forget that your health is up to you!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
