How to Do Well, Live Well and Dress Stylishly in Your 30s – 13 Tips
As you grow older and take on different roles in life, a man’s wardrobe, career, and lifestyle should undergo subtle changes. So let’s talk about how to do well, live well and dress stylishly in your 30s.
In your 20s, you do a lot of self-discovery, experimenting with your career, habits, and relationships, as well as what you wear.
When you’re in your 30s, you can start to build on the things you learnt in your 20s by improving in your career, lifestyle, and wardrobe – build your wardrobe into something appropriate for a man on the up and up.
Although this is the time to build and solidify the things you started in the previous decade of your life, we believe you are wiser and have experienced life more and you’ve hopefully, gotten some unhealthy behaviours out of your system like frequent partying and spending all your disposable cash on unnecessary things- but if you’re not, this is the time to do so.
Being a career-man-slash-husband-slash-father with a lot of bills like rents to pay, being married, having and raising children, or a combination of all three is a lot of responsibilities on your shoulders. Many guys stubbornly continue to dress like the teenagers they wish they still were.
At this stage, you are supposed to know what direction you want to head, and, how you like to dress.
To give you a heads-up on this new, exciting phase of your life, here are 13 Tips on how to do well, live well and dress stylishly in your 30s.
13 Tips on How to Do Well, Live Well and Dress Stylishly in Your 30s
1. Start Saving for Retirement Now- Not Later!
Let’s face it, in your 20s spent impulsively, but now that you are in your 30s – it’s time to make wise financial decisions. Planning for retirement should not be put off.
You need to start getting your financial house in order and to start saving for retirement, today! Keep an “emergency fund” for unplanned situations like health bills. Keep a part of every paycheck into a separate savings account.
You need to develop a habit of saving and planning ahead, so you don’t spend frivolously. Don’t buy a car or a home unless you can afford it or better still start saving to buy one.
2. Pursue a Career that You Love
This is a great time to explore other parts of your line of work and develop your dreams.
As the late American entrepreneur, business magnate, inventor, and CEO of Apple Inc Steve Jobs once said – “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life… And the only way to do great work is to love what you do”.
Not being happy at your job is disastrous to your career, and can cause an unhappy life.
Find a job you love where you are fulfilled and every day is another fun day at work because you enjoy what you do.
3. Future-Proof Your Career
If you are in your 30s now and you are cut out for the career world growing along the corporate career ladder, then you should know that you will be working for another 30 years or more. How long will your services be needed in that company you work for?
No one is 100% sure of their jobs, so you need to protect yourself by building skills and attributes that machines find hard to copy.
Learn new skills or enroll in courses that help you excel in your human skills. Do it all now, ‘cos it might be a little bit too late to start these in your 40s.
4. Prioritize Your Spending
At this age, you should have an idea of what is important in life, including the kind of lifestyle you want to lead. As a man who knows what he wants, you should stop spending on stuff that isn’t important to you.
You’re not that impulsive Twenty something-year-old man who spends on anything and everything, so you should think before you buy that expensive shoes you don’t need or a new car that you won’t drive because of insufficient maintenance funds or inadequate monthly income. Let your spending be in line with your values, you will be able to save for future plans.
5. Invest in Assets
Do you have your own property? If not, now is the time to get it.
You should already have some money saved up by the time you hit your 30s and if you do not have it by now, now is the time to start saving and working seriously towards it.
You should invest in assets that will appreciate in the future.
6. Start Exercising Regularly
Make time for exercise in your 30s. When you grow older, you will start to lose muscle mass and begin to gain a few pounds as your metabolism slows.
This is why it is important that you exercise regularly.
It doesn’t matter if it’s walking, jogging, hiking, swimming or weightlifting—as long as it involves physical exercise, just do it.
Staying in shape will make your clothes look fit on you.
7. Take Care of Your Health Now, Not Later
Not making eating healthy a priority can be detrimental to your health in the long run.
Have a well-balanced diet, low in saturated fats and full of fruits and vegetables every day.
Avoid eating processed foods and quit smoking and drinking alcohol excess. Drink plenty of water. Prioritize your health because “health is wealth.”
8. Love Yourself More
Loving yourself and being confident about yourself is very important. It is only when you love yourself that you can be able to extend love to others, both in your personal and professional life.
This will boost your emotions and self-esteem. You should spend more time with people who make you feel good and motivate you to be better as well. Find out the 3 things you need to start doing to be successful.
9. Start Building Your Dream Life
Dreams are not just for sleeping, you surely have a picture of what you want your life to be.
From your family to your dream job, to even the house you want to live in – you need to plan, set goals and new resolutions that will help you attain them.
Fulfilling all these plans and resolutions will play a major role in your happiness, success, and satisfaction in life. So whatever your plans are, start doing them, don’t delay pursuing your dream life.

10. Grow, Develop Yourself and Enjoy Life.
You should grow in your 30s by improving on yourself. If it is to take extra courses to get a leg up, then do so.
Warren Buffett once said, “the greatest investment a young person can make is in their own education, in their own mind.”
Your number one goal in life is to try to become a better person, partner, parent, friend, colleague etc.
While you’re trying to grow, you should remember to enjoy life as well. Take your partner on a date, spend time with your kids (if you have any) or hang out with your buddies.
Try to have a blast in your 30s and make good memories.
11. End The Experimenting
Fashion changes with time but style doesn’t. You are no longer in your 20s but in your 30s, you have passed the experimenting stage.
So dabble less in trends and stick to what is appropriate for your age.
12. Invest in Quality, Not Quantity!
In your 30s, we believe that you already have a fully functioning wardrobe- suits, blazers, pants, shoes, etc. (See 25 Work Wardrobe Essentials Every Man Should Have in His Closet).
Instead of buying for the sake of quantity, you should buy quality clothing items that will last longer, even if it means saving for a few months. Adopt the rule of “Buy less but buy better”.
13. Dress with Dignity
As a stylish man, in your 30s, you should dress in clothes that add a certain social weight to your look.
Dress like a ‘manly man’, rather than dressing like a like a teenager, you should accept your age with enthusiasm and sophistication. This way, people will take you seriously which allows you to move into a more influential role.
You should be comfortable wearing a jacket often, leather shoes instead of sneakers, classic native attires when the occasion calls for it – either smart casual or business casual.
Your haircut should be presentable, have a grooming routine. Know how to dress with finesse, like a man who’s confident about who he is, rather than a man who misses being a young boy.
