Are you heading to your 50s or 60s? Don’t be one of those men who lose their style once they hit the big 5-0 or 6-0.

It doesn’t have to be that way you know, surely, this is the time to finesse what you’ve learned in the past 4 decades and counting. You’re a still a gentleman with a firm idea of yourself and your place in the world, and your wardrobe and lifestyle should mirror that.

Like most men in this age, you’re afraid of the consequences of being old, so you feel dejected and become desperate to be young again.

You try to do what you were used to when you were in your 20s or 30s, like dressing younger, getting a younger partner or partying and drinking too much.

You want to feel young again!

Honestly, I don’t blame you when you react this way, you only see the grey hairs and wrinkled faces – which are clear evidence that Mother Nature has come knocking, whispering to you “My child, you are aging”.

You know she means business; you know it’s inevitable, yet you feel the urge to do something about it. At this point, you conclude your “sexy” days are gradually coming to an end, so you fight back against Mother Nature.

You dye your gray hair and beard – black and shop for best anti-aging cream and moisturizers. You try to take care of those things within your control.

However, deep within you-you know that some aspects of your life in your 50s and 60s can be controlled, and others, not so much; some changes are thrilling, some can be very difficult. But the bitter truth is, life must go on!

You can stomp your feet on the ground like a child or hit the wall in anger, nothing will change. But your actions will definitely make a difference.

You have achieved great things personally and professionally, this is the time to rest and enjoy your hard work. Take it easy now. After all, God rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made, right?

Today, we’ve put together a list of tips on how to do well, live well and dress stylishly in your 50s and 60s.

How to Do Well, Live Well and Dress Stylishly in Your 50s and 60s | 15 Tips

1. KEEP IT COLOUR-BLOCKED

In Your 50s and 60s

You should go for less colorful clothes, a more tonal look is appropriate for your age. Avoid wearing excessively bright colored clothes so you might end up looking like a clown if you do it wrong. Instead, invest in classic colors like a  light grey, navy blue, forest green, and camel – these colors go well with people above 50s.

2. WEAR FITTED CLOTHES

At this stage of your life, you should already have a very good tailor who can make adjustments to suit your style and body. You should have gotten this in your 40s.

This makes your body look better, flattering the best parts of your figure, and it also makes you more comfortable. Get everything trimmed to fit you including your suits, jackets, trousers and your shirts.

The only thing you should leave unadjusted is your socks and underwear. So keep in touch with your tailor!

3. DRESS COMFORTABLY

In Your 50s and 60s

In your 50s and 60s, you should look comfortable, and relaxed, at all times.  This is a good time of your life to move away from seriously fitted “power suits”. Wear dressy, grownup clothes that have soft fabrics, relaxed cuts, and a nice casual variety of colors. Wear more relaxed clothes like sweaters and turtleneck.

4. LOOK FOR STRUCTURE

In Your 50s and 60s

Look for casual clothes that will give your body that extra bit of structure. You should wear more button downs and polo shirts that will define both your shoulders and your arms and make them look bigger. Wear a T-shirt with raglan sleeves that will broaden your chest and back. Other options include Henley shirts, loose chambray shirts, short-sleeved shirts, basic t-shirts

5. GO CASUAL, SOMETIMES

Suits become less important in your 50s and 60s except you work as a business executive and it’s part of your dress code. Otherwise, this is the time to go for casual or smart casual. A blazer and smart chinos will be your friends over the coming decades, they will go well in any event you want to attend. Invest in an arsenal of slightly loosely fit and trim button-down Oxford shirts but with a sharp cut. You should also go for straight-cut pants that will accommodate a fuller thigh. Trust me, you don’t want to be squeezing into anything in your wardrobe.

6. LET THE HAIR GO

In Your 50s and 60s

Unfortunately, you may notice that you have less and less hair in your 50s and 60s. Here is the good news though, you can still look hot with no hair. You can even decide to shave off your hair and grow out your beard.

Now that you have a fat bank account, it is time revisit your old bucket list. Now is the time to buy that fancy car you’d always promised yourself.

Take advantage of this age to spoil yourself a bit – buy all those wardrobe items you’ve always wanted, but couldn’t afford. Whether it’s that Prada briefcase, a midnight blue Brunello Cucinelli dinner suit, that expensive vintage wrist watch or go on a boat cruise to see the world. If you can now afford all the luxury you dreamed off, why not get it?

8. STAY IN SHAPE AND STAY HEALTHY

In Your 50s and 60s

This is very important!

You need to stay in shape to keep you feeling better, healthier and looking good. This is the time to get healthier than before. Get at least 1 hour of physical activity like walking, jogging, biking, etc. You should also stay healthy by paying attention to what you consume. Limit foods that are high in unhealthy fat and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fiber, vitamins and minerals every day.

9. TRAVEL THE WORLD

In Your 50s and 60s

One of the ways to enjoy living in your 50s and 60s is to visit the places you wanted to go but never had the time to. You can go on a vacation alone or with a loved one.

Take this time to discover new areas, new cultures and meet new people. Let yourself relax in some of the most beautiful places in the world without the worry of work the next week.

In Your 50s And 60s

Stress can take a heavy toll on mental and physical health in your 50s and 60s. Too much stress at this age increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and may speed up aging! Reduce stress in your life by relaxing your mind and body, and you will live a longer and happier life.

11. EMBRACE YOUR AGE

In your 50s and 60s

You don’t have to fight growing old. Embrace it! It is not easy to let go of your younger self, but you only grow old once. So embrace and love your aging self. Take care of your body, mind, and soul, treat yourself with kindness and respect.

12. RECONNECT WITH OLD FRIENDS

In Your 50s And 60s

Meet up with old friends for drinks or a game of poker and share memories of the past. Reconnect with old buddies and settle old scores.

13. LET GO OF REGRETS

In Your 50s And 60s

Why waste your time regretting something you can never change? What’s done is done! I’d advise you to move on, and last I checked, you can go back in time. Move forward by learning from past mistakes…

14. VOLUNTEER

In Your 50s And 60s

You have enough free time on your hands in your 50s and 60s, plus a very fat bank account, Well it might not be “very fat” but it certainly would be “fat” . Give back to society by reaching out to a charitable organization or volunteering. You investment your time and money to helping those in need. Just think about it! Afterall, you rise more by lifting others up.
