People would say that ‘life begins at forty’, that is not exactly true. But do you know what begins at forty? Or better still, cruising on the Atlantic Ocean in your own yacht or enjoying a nice quick trip in your private jet [is that going over the top? No, it’s actually achievable]. This is really the time to enjoy living in your 40s and leave the hard work for your 20s and 30s.

In your 40s

You’ve passed the self-discovery phase in your 20s, took your life more seriously in your in your 30s, and now that you’re in your forties, you have certain responsibilities, you start to carry yourself with some serious authority and you make certain changes in your life, businesses, family and even your wardrobe, as well.

Although life may not begin in your 40s, as far as your style is concerned, it doesn’t have to end there as well!
A lot of things happen when at this age, for starters, you find yourself worrying less and less about irrelevant things. You’ve really experienced life in this stage, you’ve had to go through life’s challenges and made very life-changing decisions – some paid off, some didn’t but it’s all part of the learning and growth process.

In your 40s, you are often just as dynamic and adventurous as you were in your 20s and 30s, or more as a matter of fact. Just because you’re older and wiser, it doesn’t mean you should dress like someone who is waiting for retirement.
You should enjoy living in your forties, do the things you couldn’t do two decades ago. With a little luck, you have more money and fewer responsibilities than you used to, don’t be shy about making some nice wardrobe investments as you move into this decade of your life. Do you know how to do well, dress stylishly and enjoy living in your 40s? Read on and find out!

How to Do Well, Dress Stylishly and Enjoy Being in Your 40s – 18 Tips

1: Dress Your Age

In your 40s

You don’t have to cling to your youth by dressing younger. That’s not a good move at all. Dressing younger will only make you look older, you should dress in clothes that add a certain social weight to your look. Dress like a ‘manly man’, rather than dressing like a teenager or young adult in school, you should accept your age with enthusiasm and sophistication.

2: Invest in Quality, Not Quantity

In your 40s

You should already have a fully functioning wardrobe of suits, blazers, pants, shoes, etc. You should buy quality items that will last longer since you can afford it.
Don’t hesitate to spend money on expensive designer suits, luxurious cars, houses and first-class trips to the best holiday destinations.

3: Own a Classy Timepiece

In your 40s

Yes, you can now own one of those expensive classy wrist watches. Invest in a classic analog wrist watch that’ll look as great with casual wear as it does with a suit. Treat yourself to your first high-end watch that you can pass down to your son as an heirloom. Get jewelries such as a signet ring or a small stack of bracelets that complements your classy timepiece.

4: Wear Very Little Jewelry

In your 40s

A lot of men in their 40s are already making this mistake, it’s not too late to readjust yourself. It’s not bad to wear jewelry, but as a stylish man in your 40s, you should keep it toned down. Don’t wear a neck full of chains or you will make look like a mob boss. If you want to wear some jewelry, it advisable to keep it to just one piece beyond your watch or wedding ring.

5: Get a Barber Who Knows You

In your 40s

Just like having a relationship with a personal stylist, I recommend the same thing with a barber or hairstylist you know and trust. You need someone who can keep you looking neat, sharp and handsome by giving you a nice haircut. Have a standing appointment every two to three weeks with your hairstylist, skipping a haircut appointment is an excuse to look sloppy.

6: Hire a Personal Stylist or an Image Partner

In your 40s

You experimented in your 20s, in your 30s, you learnt to be comfortable with your look while making important life decisions. But in your forties, it is the time to take the results of that success and reinvest it in yourself.
Develop a relationship with a stylist, partner with a Style Coach/Image Consultant like the Kobi Koachman Image and Style Consultant. Looking good doesn’t have to cost you so much especially when you have an Image Partner who is helping you make all the right style choices selecting affordable pieces that will make you look good and feel great while saving you a lot of costs. Having a personal stylist will help you spend the money on the right cloth items.

7: Have a Good Tailor

In your 40s

Our bodies change with time, and sometimes they change for better, and sometimes they don’t. If you’re lucky enough to fit into store-bought suits- good for you, not many of us are that lucky, so having a bespoke suit specially made to fit you is an investment that will definitely pay off.
Do yourself a big favor and get your pants and suits fitted by a qualified tailor — please don’t meet the roadside tailors [unqualified tailors] if you really love yourself. Better still your Image Consultant who offers Tailoring Services can help you in this regard.
Wearing ill-fitting clothes is a sign that you don’t have your act together. Start with a navy suit or charcoal grey suit tailored to pronounce the broadness of your shoulders and narrowness of your waist.

8: Travel First Class or Via a Private Plane

In your 40s

Flying first-class or hiring a private plane is the way to go!
It’s also easier and more affordable to get a seat on a private plane. This is a luxury you need to try now that you’re in your forties – especially with lots of time and money in your hands. Imagine sitting up front with the pilot in the cockpit, now that’s an image you won’t easily forget. I promise you!  Whether you are able to achieve this in your early 40s or your late 40s, give it a try. Have it as a goal, and achieve it in your 40s.Also See: 9 Best Bags for Work and Travel

9: Support a Cause

In your 40s

While this is not a compulsory obligation, it is a volunteering act that you should consider doing – remember, the pocket that gives doesn’t dry up. It is time to put your money, where your mouth is. Make a difference in the society by supporting a probable cause – a cause that is dear to you. You’ve done well in life, you should give back to society by helping someone do well for themselves.

10: Visit Your Dream Destination

In your 40s

One of the ways to enjoy living in your 40s is to visit the places you wanted to go but never had the time to. You can look stylish, eat in a five-star restaurant, and visit different islands on vacation. At this age, you’re established enough to afford all the luxuries you’ve always wanted to have. You should take advantage of it.

11: Attain the Formerly Unattainable

In your 40s

Remember your 20s or 30s when you wanted that fancy sports car, that expensive vintage wrist watch, or that crazy weekend in Vegas, but could only dream of having the money? Those days are gone. Now that you have a fat bank account, it is time revisit your old bucket list. You can now afford all the luxury you dreamed off, why not get it?

12: Train For Something

In your 40s

It is important that you exercise regularly. You might even find out that you have more balance and endurance that you didn’t have in the last two decades. Being inactive in your 40s can make you lose 3 to 5 percent of your muscle mass, but you can prevent this by strength training. 13: Prioritize Your Health

Build muscle faster

Prioritize your health because “health is wealth.” Now’s the time to plan and schedule doctor’s visits to avoid having health issues. Go for regular medical checkups, at this age your immune system is weak so you need to visit the doctor regularly. Have a well-balanced diet, low in saturated fats and full of fruits and vegetables every day.

14: Have a Life Insurance

In your 40s

Buy life insurance!
Insuring your life and that of your family [if you’ve got one] is one of the most important financial decisions you need to make. Life itself is unpredictable, nothing is certain. You can secure your family’s financial future by insuring your life as well as theirs. You never know how useful it will be.

15: Don’t Look Back

In your 40s

Growing older can take a toll on you. You become nostalgic about the few decades that had passed. Rather than being wistful about the past, find better ways to enjoy the present and prepare for the future. Pick up new hobbies and even join a club with men of the same age to spend time with and network.

15: Grow Old with Pride

In your 40s

The days of experimenting are two decades behind you. It’s your hair, you should know what works best for your hair type and face shape. Don’t try to dye your hair. Be proud of your grey hairs and bask in the glory of being in your forties. And don’t even consider botox or facelifts, that’s a big NO!

16: Plan Your Own Funeral

In your 40s

As scary as dying may seem, we’ll all die one day and we never know when that will be. Now that you’re in your 40s, it is a good time to plan what your last moments on earth will be like. You can also take this time to write your will! Scary right? But that is life!

18. Make a Retirement Plan

In your 40s

Your forties are the time to start planning for retirement. Even when you’re already too old to work, you’d want to still enjoy life and go on vacation every now and then. What do you want your life to look like in your 60s, 70s, and beyond? You need to start working towards that now.

Hey the money thing is for 50s and 60s. You don’t mention family. Most guys have kids in the 40s, and if you had them in your 30s, they are now teenagers. Focus on your children. Invest in your offspring. DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON LUXURIES YOU DON’T NEED! That is when they are out of the house. On the other hand start planning for your retirement in your 30s. You never know when something nasty will happen to you before you retire!
