How Short Men Should Dress | 7 Style Tips For Shorter Guys
When it comes to selecting an outfit, you must always consider your body size, color tone, and your height. Here are the best style tips for shorter guys that you can follow and ensure you look great and stylish all the time.
Before I continue, I’m sure some of you would be asking – What heights do we consider short, average, and tall?
Okay here it is:
- Short: Below 5ft7
- Average: falls between 5ft7 and 6ft2
- Tall, over 6ft2 but less than 6ft5
- Very tall, over 6ft5
Short men (below 5 ft 7) face a lot of style struggles. Most men who are not-so-tall can relate to this.
The average clothing is not designed for the not-so-tall man (as well as the very tall men) and that’s why they face so many style struggles with getting the right clothes to fit – the sleeves and the length of the pants are always too long or too short. You would need to know a good tailor to have them fitted.
Please note this; the fact that you are short doesn’t mean you have to look short when you dress up. The way you dress can make you appear taller – FACT!!!
And after reading this article, you’ll come to realize that there are some tricks and style tips shorter guys should follow.
The idea is to piece items together that will lengthen your body to appear taller. With these few style tips for shorter guys, we’ll cover here today, you don’t have to feel bad about being short.
If somebody can come up with a clothing line for modest men, it will be a dream come true for many men that fall in this category. So here are seven best style tips for shorter guys.
7 Style Tips for Shorter Guys
#1. Stick to a Monochrome Palette
Wearing a monochrome color scheme, where you mix two shades to streamline your look and create an illusion of height. Darker shades make you look slimmer and appear taller, so the darker the better, but don’t wear all black, it will make you look shorter.
When mixing colors, wear darker shades on the lower half of your body and the lighter ones up to create a lengthening effect by drawing the eye upward. Stick to patterns that move vertically, so people will be encouraged to move up your body rather than across it when wearing horizontal patterns.
#2. Avoid Baggy Trousers
In case you didn’t know, your pants play an important role on how short or tall you look – so without sugar coating my words – baggy trousers make you look shorter. If the crotch, width of the pant leg, and the pant length are too wide, you’ll look shorter.
Tip: Wear your trousers at your natural waistline to maximize your leg line. Go for a slimmer cut trouser as that will help make your legs look longer too.
#3. A Blazer Is Your Best Choice
Wear a fitted blazer or suit jacket, it will build up your shoulders by adding height. No oversized blazers, please.
Keep it buttoned to create a slim outline that will make your chest look bigger and your waist looks smaller, giving a slimming and heightening effect. When wearing a two button jacket, make sure the top button is above your navel to make your torso and legs look longer. I’d advise that you go for a shorter cut on the jacket.
#4. Get a Good Tailor
I have preached this many times, having a good tailor is a necessity for all. The fit is very important when it comes to looking taller, you’ll need a good tailor to help you pronounce the right lines and hide the bad ones. Wearing loose clothes will make you look shorter, so get a good tailor will make you want to look slim and tall.
#5. Your Shirt Shouldn’t Pass Your Hipbone or Crotch
If you’ve been reading MRKOACHMAN.com for at least a year, then you should already know by now that your shirts should be fitted. In order to appear taller, your shirt should be short enough and not go past your hipbone or crotch.
These style tips for shorter guys applies to both shirts and T-shirts. If you’re wearing a button down shirt, you should tuck it in most of the time to give you a slimmer line and make your legs look longer. But if you’re wearing a shirt designed to be un-tucked or a T-shirt, make sure it is short enough – not past your hipbone. Longer hems will swallow you up and make your legs look stubby. Avoid short sleeves, they shorten your arms. If your arms look short, so will the rest of you.
#6. Your Shoes Add Extra Height
This is another style tips for shorter guys that you should take seriously, your shoes play an important role here. Wearing big and bulky shoes will make you look shorter. Wear shoes with an elongated toe box with a tape in the shoe. Wear shoes with heels to give you an extra inch, this way you look taller.
#7. Minimize Your Accessories
The last (but not the least) style tips for shorter guys you should remember – Don’t wear flashy shoes, flashy watches, and big belt buckles.
In order to appear taller, you want people to look upward, to maintain that, and avoid anything that will draw their attention below. For more flair, wear a hat or a bright pocket square to keep their eyes above.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Much of what you wear creates an optical illusion, so it is important to take note of what you wear to maintain that illusion of looking tall.
