10 Items Every Man Should Have In His Home
Every guy dreams of having a killer pad that everyone wants to visit, either it’s for a party, a family dinner or a dinner date with a lady you like. Just like your clothes speaks a lot about you, the place you live is no different! There are certain items every man should have in his home from a sofa to a fully stocked bar or a toolbox.
I remember three years ago when I visited an old friend from my University days, Steve was his name and he was popularly called by the ladies ‘Sexy Steve’. He was a fine young gentleman back then in school – tall, well built, suave and had a good sense of dressing – Oh, he was a lady’s man!
I hadn’t seen Steve since we graduated from the University and I thought it would be nice to catch up with an old friend.
He was staying in one of those really expensive condos in a very nice part of Lagos. I was quite impressed, he was really doing well for himself running his own IT company.
Unfortunately, disappointment met me when I knocked on the door, and Steve being Steve, welcomed me with a big scream “KOACHMAN!!!” – yeah, that was my nickname back then in school.
I went inside, lo and behold, the image that met me wrecked me for life! Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit, but it hasn’t left my mind even until this moment – 3 years later.
Let me describe the living room for you…
The living room had no couch but white plastic chairs, the flat screen TV was mounted on a stool, there were posters of rappers on the walls, and red solo cups were scattered around the room. The place was a disaster! I had to ask him – “Steve! Did you just move in?” and his response shocked me – “No bro! I’ve been here for slightly over a year now”
I thought to myself, no one should be living this way, and definitely not a CEO like Steve!
So I told him – “Look, Steve, you’re a strong, successful, and a stylish gentleman, your home should reflect that.”
I can’t begin to explain how ashamed he was after I told him this… but let’s leave the story for another day.
Gentlemen!
Whether you’re having a family dinner, watching the games with the guys or have a date over, your home should represent who you are and what interests you.
Just because you’re busy with work doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a comfortable place to stay at the end of every day.
You don’t have to spend a lot to make your place look nice and homely, you don’t need to buy everything at once unless you can afford to, of course.
Remember, it’s not just a bachelor pad, it’s your home! The fact that it is often called a humble abode doesn’t mean it has to really be “humble” or of “mediocre” status.
Start by adding these essential items every man should have in his home to make your home look better and feel more comfortable.

1. A Very Comfortable Armchair
Your sitting room is the first place your guests will stay when they visit, you don’t don’t want them to sleep on the floor right?
Owning a very comfy armchair is one of the main things to strive for in life once you’ve gotten a place to live. Your days of having a single chair in your room are over – you are no longer in college and this isn’t your dorm room.
Every man should have durable, stylish bachelor pad with a leather couch or with a fabric body- they can both be a clean, contemporary design. Imagine coming home at the end of the day, relaxing after a busy day and settling into the comfortable armchair while you watch your favorite movie. Heaven right? It also adds character to a toned down room.
2. Glassware
Serving drinks to your guests with red solo cups or plastic cups is not an ideal thing for a host to do. Every man should have a set of glassware– they don’t have to be really expensive, a few tumblers or a set of wine glasses will do. They are one of the essential items every man should have in his home.
3. Something That Smells Good
This time, we are not talking about cooking a delicious and aromatic meal, lol!
A study reveals that women have a sharp sense of smell than men. This explains why your mom always thinks that your room smells funny all the time, but now that you’re an adult, you need to make sure that your home smells good. This is another item every man should have in his home or people won’t visit you if your room smells awful! Candles and room diffusers are ideal choices. You can go for a citrus or woodsy smell – This is my personal favorite and for a start you can try them. Now is the time to run to the store and get one!
4. A Well Stocked Home Bar
You should always be ready for a spontaneous celebration or a night indoor with the guys.
You can save yourself a lot of stress from running to the store to get a bottle of wine or whiskey every time you have guests coming over. Every man should have a home bar fully stocked with different drinks. You can start with rum, whisky, vodka, tequila, red wine, and gin.
5. A Good TV
Remember those days in University where it was cool to watch movies on your computer? Back then it was cool, now it’s not!
Do you really want to have to sit around your computer when you have a date or to watch the games with your buddies? A flat-screen TV is one of the best gifts that you can buy yourself, so get one for yourself or at least two if you’ve a bigger apartment.
6. A Coffee Maker
If you’re a lover of coffee, then there is nothing stopping you from making your own coffee or getting a good coffee maker.
While this may not seem necessary because of the coffee shop a few blocks away from your office, trust me when I say you need a coffee maker to make your coffee. That coffee shop won’t always be there at odd hours of the night when you’re working late on a project! Hope you have changed your mind about not getting a coffee maker?
7. Loud Speakers
One of the items every man should have in his home is loudspeakers! You don’t have to rent speakers when organizing a house party. If you want to have a little get together or a romantic indoor dinner with your significant other, you need some decent speakers. Smart technology speakers are a good investment, trust me.
8. Cooking Utensil
Another item every man should have is a good set of cooking utensils. Nothing is sexier than a man who knows how to make a cook a good meal. Every now and then Impress your date or your spouse by offering her a home cooked meal courtesy of you, the chef! Apart from impressing the ladies, you need to be able to prepare a nice meal for yourself, instead of eating takeout. Plus you will save a lot cooking for yourself.
9. Wall Art
Some of you are already thinking of an expensive painting like the Monalisa painting, don’t worry you don’t need to empty your bank account to get a wall art.
Get some and hang them on those walls because they make a statement and give your home a relaxed feel. It doesn’t have to be a very expensive painting, it could be a simple one. Just make sure they are not posters of your favorite band or female celebrity crush!
10. A Handyman Toolkit
Things will get broken or need to be fixed. Dipping your hand into your pocket to pay the plumber or the carpenter each time things get broken or need repairs will only make you spend unnecessarily!
You can avoid these expenses when you use the fixing skills you were created with. Be a problem fixer and start fixing the broken chairs, loose pipes or clogged sinks. Start by getting a toolkit – like a drill, hammer, wrench flathead screwdrivers, etc, and get fixing!
