Your denim shirt style inspiration is here …
The denim shirt is a menswear essential and a must-have in every guy’s wardrobe.
They are timeless, simple, classic and highly versatile. You can dress them up, dress them down and even use them to create a great layered look.
This menswear staple was once seen as a cowboy shirt primarily worn by cowboys and old men. Today, they are back in style. And, I’ll be showing you different ways you can style a denim shirt and how to wear them fashionably without looking like your Old Man.
But first, you need to understand some basics…
WHEN CAN YOU WEAR A DENIM SHIRT?
You can wear it on a casual Friday at the office, incorporate it in a casual relaxed look on a typical weekend outing to the bar or to the beach or even rock it with a knit tie and jeans for that super business casual look.
And, yes!… you can even pair it with a suit – but it takes finesse so I wouldn’t recommend it to fashion newbies.
DIFFERENT STYLES OF DENIM SHIRT
It comes in different colors – the basic colors are navy, black and blue. And, these colors come in several different washes – such as the light wash, medium wash, and dark wash.
It also comes in different styles – short sleeve, long sleeve, button down collars (which is downright casual) and spread collar types (which is certainly the go-to option when you want to dress up your denim shirt with suit & tie).
WHAT PANTS TO WEAR WITH DENIM SHIRT?
You can wear your denim top with any bottom you like (such as jeans, chinos, shorts, dress pants, khakis, corduroys, and any other casual pants) and it’s still going to stand out and look classy. Wear a ripped jeans with your denim shirt, to give it that super sophisticated yet laid-back casual look.
However, one key rule to take note of when wearing a denim shirt is…
Do not pair a denim top and a denim bottom of the same shade or wash. When pairing a denim shirt on denim pants (such as jeans), ensure there is enough contrast.
Now, to help you style your denim look I’ve rounded up some cool denim shirt style looks with photos.
HERE ARE DIFFERENT WAYS TO WEAR A DENIM SHIRT
I encourage you to take these examples and create your own style. If you’re new to wearing denim shirts, just stick to the basics, for now.
When you are comfortable with pulling off the basic looks, then work yourself up to other advanced looks such as wearing them with a tie, suit, blazer and jackets.
