What does your image say about you? Does your personal image project the impression that you are confident, competent and classy? Find out how you can greatly improve your image.
Yesterday morning, I had a 2-hour style consultation session with Mr. Seun, a new client of KOBI KOACHMAN. He contacted us about a week ago, saying he was interested in our Wardrobe Styling service and so we scheduled him for an appointment. When we eventually met at my office, he began explaining…
“Mr. Kobi, I’m taking up a top leadership position in this new company in a month’s time, and I need your advice on how I can make a good lasting impression at my first encounter with my new colleagues”
At that point, I realized that he wasn’t just in need of a new wardrobe, but, he also needed some tips and advice on how he can make a good first impression as he resumes in his new workplace. Considering the fact that he was taking up a senior management role, he wanted to make a positive, lasting first impression but wasn’t so sure of how to portray the image of a confident, competent and classy gentleman.
Bottom line? He wanted to know he can greatly improve his image and style. Here was my advice to Mr. Seun on the 8 simple things he could do that will greatly improve his image and I am sharing the same tips with all of you reading this right now (even though you ain’t paying for this service like Mr. Seun did) 🙂

8 Easy Ways to Greatly Improve Your Image and Style
1. TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLOTHES AND YOUR SHOES
a) Tailor your suits, jackets, and trousers to fit. Even if you buy a ready-made suit, there are a couple of things you could do to make it look better.
b) Wear good shoes, ‘cos the right pair of shoes can change the feel of an outfit. Also, it’s totally impossible to be well dressed in a bad shoe. Here are 3 shoes you should invest in– one of the shoes have actually been described as “the most advanced shoe” for the stylish gentleman – you’ve got to include this shoe in your wardrobe.
c) Shop Smart! Only buy what you need, not what you want. Consider your day to day activities and only buy clothes that will be suitable for those activities and dress codes.
2.YOUR BODY LANGUAGE IS IMPORTANT. ENSURE YOU ARE ALWAYS PROJECTING THE RIGHT IMAGE
- Getting dressed is only half the formula, you need to deliberately take care of your body language ‘cos it’s a crucial part of first impressions.
- Everything from your posture to how you carry yourself to the way you walk, talk and act. Stand tall, sit upright – don’t slouch. Walk confidently, speak slowly but clearly, give a firm handshake and carry yourself with class. Doing these things will positively affect how other people respond to you.

3. INVEST IN ONE GREAT COLOGNE & ANOTHER GOOD COLOGNE.
Yeah, two (2) for a start is more like it (if you can afford it). You could get 1 for evening use, the other for daytime use. Make your selection from any of these links below:

4. TAKE CARE OF YOUR GROOMING, IT’S NOT JUST FOR THE LADIES.
a) Maintain good hygiene. Bathe at least twice a day. Keep yourself clean and fresh at all times by using deodorant regularly (Never miss this).
b) Your Ear and Nose Hair: Remove any visible hair in the ears and nostrils with an ear and nose trimmer. Don’t wait till hair is protruding from your nose and ears.
c) Brush your teeth regularly and floss regularly. If you have a bad tooth, visit a dentist to fix it for you. Don’t wait for that bold friend of yours to tell you –“Bro, you’ve got a bad breath” before you do something about it.
d) Have your haircut regularly: Once in two weeks is ideal except if you are bald, in which case you can do once a week or less. For men with long hair, once in 3 months is fine. If you are bearded, keep it well groomed. If you don’t have a beard, not a problem – just consider growing a beard if you can, but while you are on it, ensure you keep your cheeks clean and neat.
e) Trim your nails frequently, and no, I don’t mean with your teeth: A stainless steel pair of nail clippers is the perfect tool for this kind of job.

5. NEVER FORGET YOUR MANNERS, BE A GENTLEMAN AT ALL TIMES
Chivalry is never out of style. Open the door for the next person to walk in or walk out before you. Smile often.
Use words and phrases such as “Please, after you”, “Please, you go first”, “And how about you?”, “But if you’ll excuse me, I need to…”, “Thank You”, “Please”. Also, give compliments that encourage conversation. Making use of these subtle gestures is one sure way you can easily improve your image and style.

6. GET YOUR BODY IN SHAPE. MAKE A CONSCIOUS EFFORT TO STAY HEALTHY
a) Enroll at the gym. Three times a week is good for a start …and try not to skip days. When you invest time in workout sessions, it will pay off.
b) Stay healthy. Eat less of junk food and have more of more of Vegetables. Make a conscious effort to look better and feel better.
c) Drink a lot of water. Drinking 3.6 liters (15 cups) of water per day at certain intervals is guaranteed to make you live longer than Sir. Methuselah. Okay, just kidding! 😉 But it has a lot of benefits, one of which is improving your skin condition. Live Well!

7. NEVER STOP LEARNING AND ACQUIRING MORE KNOWLEDGE.
a) Your brain needs exercise just like your muscle, so exercise your brain by acquiring more knowledge and learning new skills.
b) You’ve gotten a new job – a leadership position with a great package, awesome benefits, an official car and a chauffeur – This doesn’t mean you have to stop learning.
Sometimes, in order not to be replaced or kicked out of that your position, you just need to keep improving, learning and acquiring more knowledge. If you don’t, sooner than later you will be irrelevant, someone more experienced than you is going to replace you. Even if that doesn’t happen, you will realize at some point that you are stagnant mentally and can’t innovate or create new disruptive ideas that can move your team or company forward.
8. INVEST IN ACCESSORIES. THIS IS A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO STAND OUT AS A CLASSY MAN.
Accessories can update boring outfits and make them stand out. They can instantly boost your outfit and polish off your entire look. I always tell my clients “Let’s include a couple of accessories in your style plan” it’s almost like a common phrase these days for me and I have a few accessories I always start with depending on the client and the suitable dress codes he is going for. Here are they:
A powerful man bag, some nicely selected combo of stylish pocket squares and ties (paisley, polka dot and other unique designs), a nice classy wrist watch that will match your outfits, classy socks that would stand out, etc.
So I ask you again – What does your current image say about you?
Having learned how you can improve your image, now go forth and apply all you have learned. After all, a good personal image will guarantee a great and lasting first impression which can lead to many great benefits – so numerous that I can’t even begin to list them all here. Just give it a try!
